Regarding Updates, Mistakes, & Time

There's a secret this week at SimSecrets about this database. It says we do not update frequently enough and that an unnamed mod does not care about mistakes. You may have seen my angry reaction at GoS - I'm going to leave that message up because I am upset and to delete it would be dishonest - but I've had time to ruminate over the message.

I think that this secret was born from an ignorance about the database and how many submissions we're getting. We are updating all the time. I've personally spent hours this summer maintaining and creating new resources. At one point, I was messaging contributors that there post had been added, but only one person ever responded so I quit doing that and put my time elsewhere.

In fact, we're getting so many posts that compiling them into an update post is impossible. I just took a look at our imgur account and I reckon that, since May we've added over 100 defaults, and that doesn't count the brand new face template posts. So, I'm sorry that we find ourselves unable to send you all update posts. Hopefully, in the future, that can be brought back.

Finally, please understand that all the mods are adults. I personally have a full-time job, a husband, and I love creating so I want to invest time there as well. This database is alive, it is being maintained, and we are doing our level best to continue contributing here and also to the Sims community at large.

To be honest I got the same impression as you (going from your post on GoS) which is the secret maker is sulking that their defaults haven't been posted or it's just another version of the entitled attitude of 'I want all the stuff now!' that many simmers seem to have. This is a wonderful resource, I cannot imagine how much work it must take to maintain and update this community. Thank you Zero, and the other 3 mods for all your hard work and for donating your precious free time to make something that is so useful for so many of us.

Heck, even if you didn't update this database anymore it would still be absolutely amazing. The fact that you (and others) are still putting effort into keeping this database up-to-date is not only impressive, but so, so appreciated. Thank you!

This is CuriousB here, and I agree wholeheartedly with everything that Zero has said.

We do our best to keep everything up to date, and to correct mistakes, but all the mods have lives, families, jobs and other responsibilities that must often come first. That's how it is. We love being able to provide this resource for the community, and are committed to maintaining it, but please give us a bit of consideration.

Zero especially has been working incredibly hard of late to keep the database up to date, and she deserves a huge amount of appreciation, not snide criticism.

Thanks though, to those who have responded with supportive comments - you're a wonderful bunch of people!

It's kind of baffling that somebody complains like that about this database... I'm personally very very grateful that you guys find the time to maintain this site. This database actually inspired me to learn how to do replacements so THANK YOU!

Yes, I know how much work it is to maintain a database.

I also realised the secrets were being taken over by haters, so I've quit reading them.

I think you mods do a great job with your site! I am grateful to have such a wonderful resource at my disposal. I rarely ever stumble upon a default that isn't already listed here. In fact, the one time that did happen, I messaged Aweshiee and the database was updated within a day. Kudos to you all and don't let the haters bring you down. <3

When I want to revamp my defaults, this is the first page I open up. True, you may not have the very latest, as in posted that day or so, but I NEED this place. I have greatly appreciated all the time and effort you guys have put into this page, and there is certainly no other place that comes close to how well this one is done. Sadly, there is no cure for stupid, and willful stupidity should be given the importance it warrants....ignore the idiot. You guys rock!

I just wanted to add a belated thanks to this post - for all your hard work and for the absolutely amazing job you are doing by compiling this database. The internet is full of trollish ingrates - try not to let 'em get you down and know that for every grumbling fool you encounter I am certain that there is a host of incredibly grateful visitors who are too excited about seeing a default in-game to stop for a moment and say THANK YOU for all your hard work and dedication... but we are very grateful indeed, so sorry about our - okay, I specifically mean *my*, here - manners! Cheers! :)
